Question
There are four people: Susie, Ann, Dave, and Joe. Susie and Ann are females, Dave and Joe are males. The people have eight different jobs. Each has exactly two jobs. The jobs are: cook, driver, researcher, manager, doctor, editor, waiter, coach. The jobs of researcher, doctor and editor require a college degree. A male has the researcher’s job. The husband of the cook is the manager. Susie is not the coach. Joe did not go to college. Susie, the cook, and the doctor (3 people) went golfing together. Question: Who has which jobs? Write a dlv program that computes the answer to this question. Revision: Assume that the cook is female and the manager is male.
Explanation / Answer
Solution:
The points given to answer the question are:
Number of people = 4
Three are doctors
Two more jobs are given to male candidates, which are manager and researchers.
this means that one of them is doctor and researcher.
Joe did not go to college means he cannot be either of the doctor, manager, and researcher
This means that Dave is the researcher and the doctor.
The above statement also proves that Suisie and Ann both are doctors
Susie is the cook as well
This concludes Susie's jobs=> doctor and cook
This also proves Ann's jobs=> doctor and coach
The remaining is waiter and driver which is for Joe
