Intro to Management.

Two members of a work team you supervise come from Arabic-speaking countries. A third (non-Arabic-speaking) team member complains to you that during meetings these two often speak with each other in Arabic, denying the rest of the team what might be important information. In addition, this employee says, they both have heavy accents, making their English difficult to understand.

What could you do to resolve this communication problem, given the time and resource limitations nearly all organizations have? Hiring an interpreter or some other sort of outside consultant, for instance, would be out of the question, given your current budget situation.

This is the case where any employee would be annoyed when the other two employees talk in their accent in a company meeting. As a manager you are duty bound to resolve the issue and the best way to do it is conduct a training programe for these two arabic employees to learn english and an accent which can be understood if you happen to know somehow that you will retain them in the business for long. What would be more feasible to give them a time line to brush up on their speaking skills and make an effort to improve it for the sake of the comapny that they work for. Along with that make arule for them to sspeak in english only while they are in office premises and especially in a meeting no matter what and make sure there is strict adherence to these rules. However it will be necessary for them to undergo a training programe if they are to be retained in the comapny and there is little or no possibility of their lay off in near future.
