Question

1.What is mutual exclusion property? In your opinion, which mutual exclusion sub-property (i.e. ME1, ME2, and ME3) is most appropriate for an IaaS cloud structure? EXPLAIN your answer.

2.What are adaptability, reliability, and resilience properties of a cloud? Differentiate between these properties.

3.Clouds provide different services (i.e. IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS). Discuss the main differences between these services. What are the key challenges for establishing trustworthy Cloud provenance?

4.Consider a fully connected network of “n” nodes: (a) Give a formula for the number of connections in this network, (b) How many connections are there in a fully connected network of 16 nodes, and (c) How many connections must fail in order for the network to fail?

6. What are differences between the grid computing and cloud computing? Give three advantages and three disadvantages of using a “cloud” as opposed to using a conventional architecture.

7. Define the Hemming distance between the two nodes of an n-cube. Prove by contradiction that the Hemming distance of two adjacent nodes in an n-cube is one.

8. Explain the differences between a lost message and an orphan message. Why an orphan message is more severe than a lost message?

9. Multiple-path routing in a hypercube is based on the property – if two nodes u and w are separated by k-Hamilton-distance in an n-cube, there are n node-disjoint paths between the source and destination; out of these n paths, k have a length of k and remaining n-k have a length of k+2. Prove this by examples for all permutations of paths, or otherwise.

10. Give salient features of mutual exclusion algorithm as given by (i) Lamport and (ii) Ricart and Agrawala. Differentiate between these two algorithms.

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

Note: 1 and 2 are answered, please repost others.

1)

Mutual Exclusion:

Mutual exclusion says that there cannot be more than one process in the critical section at any given point of time, which means the processes which are running in parallel programming environment will be sharing the critical section in a mutually exclusive manner.

ME2 is better.

2)

Adaptability:

Adaptability is where the cloud will be able to adapt to the new software and services installed and running for the database.

Reliability:

Reliability ensures consistency which means if a cloud has a reliability property in it then this means that the cloud can be trusted to hold the data.

Resilience:

This is another form of reliability but in terms of security, this property ensures the secure storage of your data.
