Question
7. The figure below shows a small Ethernet LAN. Answer the following questions. (a) What kind of network topology is used? (b) Assume stations are connected through a switch and interfaces operate in half-duplex mode. Station D sends a frame to the server while Station A sends a frame to Station D. Is there any frame collision? (c) Repeat the previous question if interfaces operate in full-duplex mode. (d) Show one situation where a collision could happen with stations connected through a switch and full-duplex ports 2. ServrExplanation / Answer
Solution:
a)
.star topology
Explanation: in star topology all nodes connected to the central hub.
easy to install and easy to add node and remove nodes to the network.
the main limitation is when hub fails entire network down.
b)
collisions occur
when nodes are connected to hub there is possibility collisions two stations are attempt send the message at the same time .they share the common medium.
c)
no collisions occur
Nodes attached to switch have dedicated media, so there are no collisions. They are operated full duplex mode.
d)
no collisions they use full-duplex mode one for transmission one line for receiving.
ports are full duplex .server connected separately to A and B.
