Question
For every manager it is imperative that his team member work in accordance to what has been set by the organization as a periodic target. It is a very good thing that employees are taking up initiative to do a project, but it shouldn't be completed at the expense of corporate objectives. Hence the reporting manager should take the following steps to realign their work goals with that of the organization's:
1.Force the employees into working towards the organizational goal by making them understand that their variable pay is connected to meeting their KPIs and if they don't work towards it they may lose out their salary and perhaps receive a bad feedback or rating from the manager.
2.Assure them that you will also work with them and help them in the project provided they meet the organizational goals before time.
3.Ask them to work on the project but that should be taken up as a secondary activity while priority should be given to the responsibility towards the organization.
4.Reassign the employees to some other team and show them that how a successful completion of the goals will get them better benefits as against the project they wish to pursue.
