Question
Problem 4 (10pt) (a) Does the Internet network layer provide reliability transmission? guaranteed bandwidth? [1.5pt] guaranteed latency? (b) Suppose the application-layer data to transmit are 200bytes. The Ethemet header is 26 bytes. The IP header is 20 bytes. The TCP header is 20 bytes i. How long is a TCP packet? [Ip] ii. Solution:
a)
Yes, Since the network layer breaks the packet into segments when the MSS is smaller than the transmitting packet then it will be broken into segments and then transmitted.
Fragmentation is also done at the network layer.
This means that network layer provides reliability, guaranteed latency and guaranteed bandwidth.
b)
i)
220 bytes, which is 200 bytes of data plus 20 bytes of TCP header at the application layer
ii)
240 bytes, which is 220 bytes received from the Application layer at the Network layer and 20 bytes of IP header.
iii)
266 bytes, which is 240 bytes received from the Network layer at the Physical layer and 26 bytes of Ethernet header.
I hope this helps if you find any problem. Please comment below. Don't forget to give a thumbs up if you liked it. :)
