Question
3) Read through problem 9.9 in the course textbook and review the table provided with that problem. Which concept would you choose to develop? Why? Is there any further work to do to make a decision? If so, what would you recommend?
problem: To illustrate some important issues in conducting trade studies, consider the following simplified example. The trade study involved six alternative system concepts. Five MOEs were used, each weighted equally. For simplicity’ s sake, I have titled the MOEs A , B , C , D, and E. After assigning values to each MOE of the six alternatives, the results were the following:
Note that two stood out well above the rest, both receiving the same total number of points:

On the basis of the above rating profiles,
(a) Would you conclude that concept III to be superior, equal, or inferior to concept V?
Explain your answer.
If you were not entirely satisfied with this result, what further information would you try to obtain?
Discuss potential opportunities for further study that might lead to a clearer recommendation between concepts III and V.

Explanation / Answer
Answer a:
Concept III will be inferior to concept V even though the total is the same. The reason is that concept III is inconsistent with the MOE points where as concept V has an average score. This would ensure development done with concept V would be more consistent as compared to concept III.
This metrics does not depict the complexity of the concepts and in which situations each concept is suitable. There should be two more columns which depict how complex each one is and in what situations it can perform the best.
The MOE’s A to E need further analysis and what it is to understand the importance of each MOE score. IT may happen MOE A point can be lower and MOE C needs to be high for a certain type of development. Therefore, if we study further from A to E then it would clear out the concepts III and V and which one is better in a particular situation.
