Question
Answer the following questions:-(Software engineering questions on SDLC models):
i)How are risks associated with a project handled in the spiral model of software development?
ii)Which types of risks is better handled using the spiral model compared to the prototyping model?
iii)An example of a project where the spiral model can be meaningfully be deployed
iv)Consider that a software development project that is beset with many risks. But assume that it is not possible to anticipate all the risks in the project at the start of the project and some of the risks can only be identified much after the development is underway. As the project manager recommend the use of the prototyping or the spiral model?Explain
Explanation / Answer
Answer(i) : Risks are handled on the basis of "Alternate Solutions" i.e., ( after the completion of the planning phase of the project , There are few steps ( Recognition ,Estimation, and monitoring of the technical viability ) which are performed to check whether the planning is working correctly or not. And if any technical feasibility is found then alternate solutions are suggested and implemented ).
Answer(ii) : Since the Requirement of the customer is not clear in using prototype model,So there might be a risk which might result changes in the requirement of the client,i.e., There is no risk Management/Analysis involved in Prototype Model,,,Whereas Spiral model has the facility of risk analysis to handle any further changes in the requirements of the client.
Answer(iii) : Spiral model can be meaningfully deployed in Any Long-Time ( High Risks ) Critical projects which involves Risks of More Costs ( Budget Constraints ) , Risks of potential changes in Requirements of the Client When Client is not sure for project's all requirements.
Answer(iv) : As the Software Development project ( Assuming Project is Critical and Long Term As well As No User's Interaction while Development ) involves many risks ,So it would be obvious and beneficial ( Because to avoid Budget/Costs Risks ) to use Spiral model because of the Risk Analysis Phase. There is no Risk Analysis Phase in Prototyping model.
