Unconscious biases are the mental shortcuts which bound us to take a decision about a person on the basis of a single trait , some projection , a particular group's association with him , some predetermined conceptual polarization etc.
For example: We give high score to a person when we came to know that he has passed highschool from the same college where as a recruiter i was also passed my highschool.
There are many bad outcomes might be associated with these biases . It impacts supervision and control . For example: A manger might give relaxation to the individuals who were known to him .
Biases impacts the recruitment and selection process as many times an interviewer might makes judgemental shortcuts while taking an interview. For example: he might give high rating to some sacles. He might project his own personality attributes with the candidates. It will pose a situation where a person will not perform as he was selected based on some projection .
Recruiter might associate a person from a particular group and reject him from being selected irrespective of his competencies.
A manger might prejudices that people belongs to different generation has different level of efficiency , work commitment , knowledge and expertise. It will hamper the motivation as well as effectiveness of the people working with the organization.
Unconscious biases prevent the continuous improvement effort adopted by an organization. If , managers and their subordinates will provide an ineffective feedback or wrong qulity report then it will hamper the overall quality conscious environment. Quality is wider terms as it starts with people if people will be wrongly hired ( biased selection) then definitely it will damge the quality parameters of the organization.
