DevOps is a software Engineering approach that combines Development (Dev) and Operations (Ops) team working in collaboration to put the Operations requirements about stability, reliability, performance into the Development practices as well as bringing Development into the management of the Production environment. DevOps aims to reduce development cycles, increased deployment frequency and more stable releases by working closely with business objectives.

To be in an operation team, below are the crucial skills that are required -

Systems administration

System administrator or SysAdmin, are the specialist who manages computer infrastructure of an organization. They are responsible to maintain, configure and operate of computer systems reliably.

For example, Database administrators (DBAs) are the person who looks after Database servers, databases and administrates it by controlling access, tuning performance, troubleshot, scaling etc.

Similarly A security administrator is a specialist in computer and network security, including the administration of security devices such as firewalls, as well as consulting on general security measures.

Other admins task exists like controlling software’s on machines, installation and updating system software, patches, backup etc.

Web administrator

A web administrator maintains web server services (like Apache) that allow for internal or external access to web sites. Tasks include managing multiple sites, administering security, and configuring necessary components and software. Responsibilities may also include VPN and software change management.

Network administration

A network administrator maintains infrastructure such as network switches and routers. They are responsible for security and firewall as well as consulting on general security measures.
