Question

Data Information Decision

With the obvious pace of current technology development, data continues to grow daily. Imagine that you are a Database Administrator for a large organization. Identify the primary decisions a Database Administrator must make in order to manage such data, maintain data integrity, and maintain a database at its most ideal level. Provide a rationale for your response. Suppose you are also in charge of securing your organization’s data. Identify at least two (2) data security measures that you believe are necessary to prevent data security issues. Justify your response.

Explanation / Answer

The primary decisions of the database administrator is to manage data, maintain the data integrity and maintaining the databse.

The Database administrator mainly focuses on the maintaining the data , and has to provide the security along with the data access. Here the organization of the data plays key role in any data management system. The Database Administrator is responsible for everything that happens in data access level.

The following things are important with respect to a database;(The Database Administrator has to take care of things) :

1)Maintaining the relationship between the information .

2)Maintaining the data consistency

3)Maintaining the data storehouse properly

4)Checking the updates frequently

5)Fixing the major bugs in the different databases

6)Maintaining the integrity controls properly

7)Installation of diffrent softwares with respect to the data

8)Migration of the data

The above mentioned functionalities are required when a database administrator is managing any kind of databases.

Security Measures :

i)There isalways a chance loss the data with human interation or without human interaction. This maybe because of software/hardware failure Or sometimes it may be because of the automated process of the database operations. So, it is always suggested to have the back-up of the data.

ii)Manage the data Integrity : The integrity control will check the data access with accessed the users. If any user tries to access the data without authorizing, then the system will not allow user to access the data.

iii)Database Recovery : The Database administrator has to provide the database recovery. It can be done by providing the checkpoint s in the database. The administrator has to maintain the log files which tells about the updation of the data.Data can aslo be recovered by maintaining the back-ups in some locations.
