5) Difference between Docker and LXD

LXD: It is an alternative of Virtual Machine that has multiple process containers. In LXD, you can able to host Operating system and it act as an Infrastructure as a Service.

Docker: - Docker is an Application Encapsulation and supports several containers running on Docker. This is an open source project where a public docker hub is there. From that hub, you can pull and push images to the registry. Moreover, it act as a Platform as a Service.

6) Yes, technologies like Docker and LXD are quite popular in the market. Docker is gaining a whole lot of popularity as it is changing the whole concept of virtualization. Through docker we can host multiple containers containing host on a single machine. And those containers are very light weight as compared to the original application. Docker and LXD can be hosted on a cloud environment.

7) Technologies like Docker and LXD, utilizes very less amount of physical resources and multiple containers can be run on a host machine. They are different type of virtualization, where resource requirement is minimal. But VMware or Virtual Box, they belongs to type-2 hypervisor and they run on a host machine and utilize the resources of the physical machine. Moreover, each machine is required resources that will be consumed from the physical resource to run those VMs.

8) Alternative to VMware and Virtual Box

So, cloud is an alternative to VMware and VirtualBox. You can host several virtual machines in a cloud environment and everything regarding resources will be taken care by the cloud service provider.

Alternative to docker and LXD

Kubernetes can be an alternative to docker and LXD. This is an open source orchestration platform designed by Google. Cluster can be handled using the Kubernetes command easily. Even devops deployment can be easily done by Kubernetes. Moreover, Kubernetes provide monitoring features and load balancing features so that the container can run smoothly on the nodes.
