Question
How about "A Clown's Database" De repairing and restoring pianos since 1973. He also has a career as r who performs children's :! an Petrich is a certified piano tuner and technician who has been Deano the Clown, a clown entertaine parties in the Seattle, WA, metro area. (See Figure CS4-1, http deanotheclown.com/). The schedule of his two businesses balance and each other: He's busy as a clown in the late spring, summer, fall, and during the rest of the year, he repairs and restores pianos. FIGURE CS4-1 Over the past 20 years, the demand for pianos has dramatically declined. When a grandmother dies, the kids move out, or some other life change occurs, families have no further use for their piano, and when they find there is no market for it, they call Dean, who picks up that piano for a modest fee. For several years, Dean restored those pianos and either resold or rented them. Since the turn of the century, however, the decreasing demand for pianos has affected him as well, and over time, he's accumulated far too many pianos. Even discarding the worst of them, he has, today, nearly 100 As you can imagine, 100 pianos occupy considerable stor- age. At first, Dean stored them in his workshop. When he ran out of room in his workshop, he built and stored them in a large metal shed (Figure CS4-2). When the shed overflowed with pia- nos, he moved them to plastic tents in a meadow on his property (Figure C$4-3). Unfortunately, the plastic tents are prone to rips and tears, and because Dean lives in the Pacific Northwest, many pianos have been ruined by rain, even when he covers them with plastic tarps inside the plastic tents.Explanation / Answer
4-9) A one table database can be easitly stored on excel instead of access database because the kind of queries which we can do in access database can be easily done on Excel. One needs to apply proper filters for accessing the data.e.g. For getting painos with records higher than 4, we can easily apply filter on the rating columns and filter down the records. Similarly creating new derived columns is very much easier in excel. With a lot of inbuilt formulas, the excel can easily handle users queries.
For an one-table datbase, the excel can easily handle the size of records. As an one-table databse doesn't require much of RDBMS concepts and functions, excel can be easily used in place of Access. Its very easy to insert, delete and modify records in excel.
4-10 Access can handle large number of records and can be used if in future the datbase can become very large(Scalable). Access can easily handle RDBMS properties like Primary Key. It can also apply constraints like NOT NULL and UNIQUE . Applying RDBMS constraints and properties ensure that data insertion is always correct. Data type properties and record size constraints can also be easily implemented in access database. Access database is fast and can easily be used as backend database for many applications. The Access database also ensures that in future if we need to add more tables, we can easily connect it using Foreign Key concept..Access database ensure that the data is stored in normal form.
4-14: Processing an abstraction is more effective than physically examning pianos because it makes the work much more easier. We don't have to perform the tedious tasks of examning very possible piano before coming across our needed piano. Physically examining the pianos is a matter of luck, we might get our required piano on first fo or we might need to examine every piano which is out there. It also lets us filter down the pianos based on multiple asspects. We can filter down the pianos by theri type, quality and select the piano. In case of physical inspection we might have to check these attributes while inspecting the pianos. It saves time as we have to inspect piano only once and examine thier attributes. The cost is saved as we don't have to devote man hours in searching for the pianos. In case we sell off some pianos, we can easily update the datbase which is not the case with physical inspection.
4-15 Dean needs to update the records by deleting the piano records whenever a particular piano is sold off. He also needs to update the conditions of the piano, if it improved or deteriorted. For updating the records he needs to make a schedule, when he goes and physcially examines all the pianos in his possession again. He also needs to insert new records, if he gets a new piano. The records should be modified by Dean if he shifts the pianos to different location.
