A strategic employee innovation plan offers a perspective to bridge the gap between the policy and action. Strategic decisions help an organization in implementation of the organization decisions for directional purpose to achieve the organizational objectives. Different organizations adopt different strategies to manage their workforce in order to achieve the organizational mission and purposes. For example work redesign is a medium term strategy to reassess the specific functions with a focus to eliminate particular product or service. Sometimes an organization might require overall systematic overhaul which is a long term strategy which brings changes in the organizational culture, employee values & attitudes with an objective to reduce costs and enhance quality. Kaplan and Norton developed the Balanced Scorecard model which is a four perspective model to measure organizational performance. Under this model organization performance is measured on four perspectives viz. financial measures, customer perspectives, internal business perspectives and employee innovation and learning perspectives. In this system all the parameters are linked to the financial performance of the organization. The system was developed to convert the vision into the operational goals, overall business planning, encouraging individual performance, learning & growth. A strategic employee innovation plan is to explore the new ideas for better employee engagement and to improve the efficiency and profitability of the organization. This includes to innovate a new product or to explore a new market or finding new ways to improve utilization of available resources of the organization or finding ways for cost reduction etc. Having innovative mindset is beneficial for the overall efficiency of the organization. The concept of intrapreneurship is all about the behavior of an employee like an entrepreneur in an organization. The employee finds innovative ways to improve organizational performance beyond the current business model. This is done by promoting entrepreneurial culture in the organization. An intrapreneur is an inventor who puts a new idea into action within the established business model which can improve the overall performance of the organization. There are different roles in intrapreneurship like initiator, facilitator, champion, team supporter and reactor.

Creativity and innovations are the key ingredients of intrapreneurship. The innovative process starts with searching for innovation. The creative process is about analyzing the background, idea, accumulation of the knowledge and evaluation and implementation of the idea. Second step of the creative process is to evaluate the opportunity, next is to involve the customer, making way for innovation, focusing on the innovation and finally organizing the innovation. The intrapreneurs can be identified on the basis of common characteristics of creative people which are: people good at idea generation, brilliant, result driven, action oriented, creative, risk taker, ambitious, innovative, positive attitude, self motivated, flexible, have analytical abilities. The culture of intrepreneurs can be promoted within an organization by trusting management, open communication culture, cultural diversity, adaptability to change, experimentation, no fear of negative consequences etc. The innovation in a business can be stimulated by focusing on employee capabilities, enhancing subject matter expertise, encouraging unconventional ideas and motivating & rewarding employees suitably. The intrapreneurial process starts with choosing an idea, planning the business and implementing the idea.
