Question
Your client, CSM Tech Publishing, has been running WIndows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Edition, which you installed about a year ago, and is using the AD DS, DNS, IIS, and File Services roles. The number of computer clients has grown from 25 to 50 in the past six months, and additional growth is expected. CSM Tech just purchased an expensive project management system to help manage project scheduling. This application has hefty momory (4GB or more) and CPU requirements (recommended 3.0 GHz quad-core processor). All desktop computers will have the project management client application installed. The owner doesnt want to install the cliend application on mobile users' laptops, so a remote solution is needed for theses laptops. The owner also mentions that he's familiar with this application and will need to log on to the server periodically to do maintenance and monitoring. The owner tells you that in the future, CSM Tech Publishing might need system fault tolerance to ensure that theres little or no downtime because this critical application will eventually be accessed at all times of the day and night. For now, hes just concerned about getting the system up and running. You check the existing server's capacity and determine that the new applications memory and disk requirements will likely exceed the existing servers 4 GB capabilities. The owner explains that theres enough budget for a new server, so you should plan for growth. Asd an aside, he mentions that because all his employees log on at about the same time, the time it takes to log on has been increasing. You need to come up with specfications for a new server. Describe some hardware feature you plan to recommend for this new server, in particular the CPU architecture, number of CPUs, amount of RAM, and disk systems. Explain your answer.
Explanation / Answer
Answer)
As the implementation of new server proposal is on its way for implementation hence some of the things which need consideration are:
1) Capacity planning: There should be enough storage units for handling the current workload.
2) Goals are to be transformed into policies
3) Security is the biggest concern hence the software should be protected with proper codes and antivirus protections at least.
4) RAM should be enhanced. An 8 GB RAM is considered a good functioning one. Number of RAMs if increased would increase the performance. There would be many CPUs attached for functioning which would be as per the requirements.
The hard disk should be attached to the systems which would be of 1-2TB or more (Each)
Also, the fault tolerant hardware, monitoring tools, reporting tools, audit tools are generally used along with the servers.
