Individual decision making would be better than group decision making in the following situations:

To make sure information is sseked out from all the members, the manager should properly moderate the discussion. He should individually ask everyone for there opinions and in problematic cases where public speaking wouldn't be conducive, one-on-one discussions should be held. Secret ballot is also another way of getting everyone's opinion.

To improve decision making process, an individual's and group's focus should be broadened. This will help in weighing the pros and cons of a decision better and thus making a sensible decision. Counter arguments in decision making always help in finding loopholes of every option and choosing the best one with all bases covered.
