Great thing about project learning is that, students learn by exploring their environment with one's own efforts rather than sitting in a cubical room and settling teacher's thoughts and knowledge in their brains. As a result they get a better understanding of the topic and learn to take up an initiative. It is also fun for children to work in the real world.
