Question

“Case Studies” Please respond to the following:

First, read this article on nomophobia from Psychology Today, located at https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/reading-between-the-headlines/201307/smartphone-addiction

Now, remember that, in case studies, we only focus on the information available. We can only focus on things in a case-by-case basis. So, using our problem-solving skills from weeks 7, 8, & 9, what do you think was the purpose of Dr. Archer's gathering of this information? Do you think his findings are accurate and feasible? Also, do you think that this case COULD be applied to other individuals right now?

Post your response below and do not forget to respond to at least one other individual on their observations of Dr. Archer's findings.

Explanation / Answer

Q1. what do you think was the purpose of Dr. Archer's gathering of this information?

Answer: {I assume the word 'this' here refers to the quantitative data that Dr. Archer used to support his argument in the article.}

In the article, Dr Archer is trying to propose in the light of the data that the Mobile Phones which were once a need, has now become a want for the consumer. Beyond that, he informs that the want has taken the form of addiction. So, to drive home the point that a majority of population worldwide uses/multitasks with mobile phones, Dr. Archer has gathered these information. In totality, if a concurrency is drawn using all the data, they all support the main point of the article - Nearly 40% ( a huge portion) of population is suffering from a phobia of losing mobile phones.

Q2:Do you think his findings are accurate and feasible?

Answer: I think his findings are accurate enough to drive home the point that today, a huge portion of population from a developed country like America is addicted to Mobile Phones. We can even substantiate this point by looking around in our own family or society. However, the accuracy of quantitative percentage that Dr Archer has proposed ( 40%) will depend on the quality of Survey done and the sources being referred to. Moreover, I feel, if we take a larger view and include people from underdeveloped countries as well, the analytical output might change.

Q3.do you think that this case COULD be applied to other individuals right now?

Answer: Yes. This case is very much applicable to other individuals right now. We should select the proper demography for it to be a perfect fit.
