Question
You have isolated double stranded DNA from a virus and measured the relative amount of deoxyadenosine and deoxycytidine in the DNA sample. You denote the two strands in the molecule as Strand A and Strand B. Overall, deoxyadenosine makes up 30% of the deoxyribonucleotides in both strands. Strand A is made up of 40% deoxyadenosine and Strand B is made up of 30% deoxycytidine. Find the relative proportion (in %) of the four deoxyribonucleotides in each strand.
So far I have figured out:
Strand A:
A = 40%
T = ?
G = 30%
C = ?
Strand B:
A = ?
T = 40%
G = ?
C = 30%
I cannot figure out how to find the rest. Please help and explain how you found it.
Explanation / Answer
deoxyadenosine makes up 30% of the deoxyribonucleotides in both strands. so in both strands dATP should add uo to 60%
Strand A:
A = 40%
T = 20%
G = 30%
C = 10%
Strand B:
A = 20%
T = 40%
G = 10%
C = 30%
