a. Describe how this type of engagement can be realized.
In general, the youth today feels disengaged from politics. Very few people strive to be in politics or aspire to become a politician. Fact is, if the country and the democracy needs to run well and with a fresh approach and change with the dynamic times infusion of youth into civics is vital. Just like how it is necessary to have an employee engaged in the organization so that he stays loyal to the organization and works towards its improvement. For a good and solid democracy, the youth need to be engaged with the civic matters so that they stay loyal to the country and work towards its development. However, to achieve this it is important to get them into the mode of decision making and participation. This can be done in organizations.
When the youth in an organization gets a chance to make decisions and sees them getting implemented and sees that the decisions he made or helped in making are doing wonders for the organization, it will give him confidence and he will then also want to be a part of the youth who actively participate in civic activities.
b. Explain what type of adolescent autonomy is manifested in this type of engagement.
One feels value autonomy is manifested in this type of engagement. Value autonomy means to have an independent attitude with regards to spiritualism, politics, morals and so on. Since the youth is maturing they have a better level of thinking and they can make better decisions as their ability to look at abstract situations and piece them properly improves. They make decisions as per their values and morals and do not blindly accept those with which they were brought up or do not follow their friends or peers.

After the adolescent has reached the age of sixteen his development of cognitive skills and emotional factors have begun and they start to discuss abstract topics for their own gratification. Previously, they would think of situations as black and white. However, now with maturity they can look at gray areas as well. Hence, this would be the appropriate stage to involve youth in decision making.
