The use of Property rights in order to improve the quality of the environment and get rid of the environmental issues is known as Free Market Environmentalism. The basic objective of the approach is to protect the environment and consistently improve the condition by enacting and applying the rules and rights of the government. Any economic growth is fundamental to improve the quality of the environment and the property rights generally treats environment as an asset, natural resource usage and care is also important which helps betterment of the environment.

Free Market Environmentalism is said to be more effective than the government in this context which is quite true because the government generally possess less knowledge about occurrence of pollution, type of pollution and the effects that the pollution can cause but Free Market Environmentalism has a sound knowledge because they are aware of the situation and monitors everything related to environment quality. Restricting pollution is a basic duty of the government but as mentioned the government lacks knowledge and also lack interest because a private property is generally not monitored or controlled by the government. In Los Angeles there was a trend which generally pointed out a shift from gasoline to methanol in the manufacture of deodorants, paints and even fuel used by car, the government was not even aware of this shift and the change in pollution level but Free Market Environmentalism had to make proper analysis in order to determine the better option.

Privatization plays a huge role in maintaining and improving environmental quality because it has been observed that in the case of private properties the owner generally is more concerned about the quality of the property and takes appropriate measures in order to maintain the standards and therefore in the process of safeguarding personal interest the interest of the environment is served. The objective of the owner is to raise the price of the property which means the property should be free from any issues which may affect it negatively. Defending the property rights is also not that easy because adequate information and proof needs to be submitted and only then the court may act upon. Increase in the pollution level in a property will desire government intervention in order lower down the pollution and also maintain the hygiene of the environment, but the court has to have proper information because pollution level can even increase if the owner is doing some activities.
