Question
We want to conduct a breakeven analysis for a wooden baseball bat manufacturer who is interested in diversifying their product line. As a reminder breakeven analysis was discussed previously in the Graphing Solutions chapter, specifically in Example 11-9. Currently, the manufacturer produces white ash bats: they are interested in purchasing a second machine line to produce hickory baseball bats. To help the manufacturer look at the different scenarios, write a program that asks the user of the program to input the following variables IN THIS SPECIFIC ORDER: The number of weeks the manufacturer plans to run their bat production machinery in a year The total number of bats manufacturer can produce per week value is same for either type of bat produced Material cost to produce a single white ash bat (in dollars) Material cost to produce a single hickory bat (in dollars) Selling price of a white ash bat (in dollars) Selling price of a single hickory bat (in dollars) The cost for energy and labor for white ash bats is $2.75 per bat: however, due to difficulties associated with producing hickory bats, the cost for energy and labor is $4.25 per hickory bat. In your program, the cost of energy and labor should appear as variables. Since the equipment already exists, there is no fixed cost for the white ash bats: the fixed cost for the hickory bats is $5,000 to purchase the new equipment. In your program, both fixed costs should appear as variables. Even though the fixed cost for the white ash is zero, you should still include it as a variable to allow the user to alter the program easily if, for instance, the manufacturer would want to examine upgrading the equipment. The manufacturing process can only make a single type of bat each week, and will produce the same number of bats in a week regardless of the material used. Your program should display the total profit generated for the scenario, as shown below:Explanation / Answer
Code:
w = input('Type number of weeks manufacturer plans to run production:');
num_bat= input('Type total number of bats manufacturer can produce per week:');
w_bat = input('Type a Material cost,white ash bat(in dollars):');
h_bat = input('Type a Material cost,hickory bat(in dollars):');
s_w_bat = input('Type selling price of white ash bat(in dollars):');
s_h_bat = input('Type selling price of hickory bat(in dollars):');
fprintf('Producing %d bats a week for %d weeks will generate: ',num_bat,w);
fixed_cost_white=0;
fixed_cost_hickory=5000
cost_of_energ_white=2.75
cost_of_energ_hickory=4.25
w_bat_profit=num_bat*w*(s_w_bat)
h_bat_profit=num_bat*w*(s_h_bat)
