Question

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on team development and management in the context of a personal experience.

Choose a group project that you have participated in; this group project may have been a student project, a work project, or an extracurricular project (do NOT use the project completed for this class, the project you select should have involved a number of other participants). Respond to each of the following questions, in detail, as they related to the group project.

Begin the assignment by describing the project itself.

Analyze the development of the team working on the project in terms of the five-phase model AND the punctuated equilibrium model presented in the chapter reading. Which model does the best job of describing how the team evolved?

Analyze the group in terms of the nine situational factors that influence team development. What factors positively contributed to group performance? What factors negatively contributed to group performance? How did the group try to overcome the negative factors? What could you have done differently to overcome these negative factors?

Analyze how effectively the group managed meetings. What did the group do well? What didn’t the group do well? If the group were to be formed again, what specific recommendations would you make about how the group should manage meetings?

Explanation / Answer

Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing & Adjourning

the five stage model of grou development is- Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing & Adjourning

we have done a college volunteer program of blood donation. for this, first formed a group, who belongs to different classes, courses, and streams. it is the first phase and we completed it well. in the second stage, we divided the total camp work into small parts and each part is allocated to people. here we design the role and define the responsiblities of each one.

in the third stage norming, team members identify the related parties to their work, and understand each other well, share about their prior experience to make the task succesful. here most of the people understand each other and started to support others.

in performing stage, every one of us started to perform our roles. some of the activities like arranging the basic infrastructure, arranging all the inputs to procedure, like, and on the day the needed arrangements, all these were performed by the people. every one is done well and we executed the work accurately.

in the final stage, once we completed the project succesfully, later we departured from there, and we entered into our regular student roles.

the punctuated equibrium model is not suitable here, for this work five stage model is best suitable and we come to know the implementation of this model.

the nine situations are-

commitment to the cause- positive factor

all for one and one for all- positive factor

a strong identity- negative factor

shared leadership- positive factor

high fun factor- negative factor

fast team learning- positive factor

frequent feedback- negative factor

protection from politics- negative factor

belief in the impossible- positive factor

the team members must understand each other and their obligations and roles in the process, one must support others. they need to inculcate integrity in the team and overcome those issues raised in the process.

when the issue comes, most of the people stands together. usually the do well in all dimensions and completes their tasks. if anything done wrong, they complain each other. the only way to overcome this is build collectivism and collective response strategies rather than individulism.
