Question

Providence Assessment Center screens and trains employees for a computer assembly firm in Boston. The progress of all trainees is tracked and those not showing the proper progress are moved to less demanding programs. By the By the

twelftht repetition trainees must be able to complete the assembly task in 1 hour or less. Susan Sweaney has just spent 7 hours on the fourth unit and 6 hours completing her eighth unit, while another trainee, Julie Burgmeier, took 4 hrs on the third and 3 hr on the sixth unit

Time required by Susan for the tenth unit

12 unit = ______ hrs

Time required by Julie for the tenth unit:

12th unit= ______ hrs

Explanation / Answer

Susan takes 7 hrs on 4th unit and 6 on 8th unit

So, rate of learning coefficient = 6/7 = 0.85

Now using logarithmic table for learning coefficient, we have Time required bySusan for 10th unit =(0.583/0.723) of time required for 4th unit using 85% learning coefficient= 5.644 hrs

Similarly,rate of learning for Julie = 3/4 = 0.75

Using log table for learning coeff again, Time required by Julie for 10th unit = (0.385/0.634) of 4 hrs = 2.43 hrs
