Question
The Lincoln Company, Inc., produces special vacuum cleaners for conveniently cleaning the inside of cars. About a thousand of these vacuum cleaners, with stamped serial numbers, are produced every month and stored serially in a stock-room. Once a month, an inspector does a quality control check on 50 of these cleaners. When the inspector certifies them as acceptable, the units are released from the stock-room for sale. The production and sales managers, however, are not satisfied with the quality control check, since, quite often, many of the units sold are returned by customers because of various defects.
What would be the most effective sampling plan to test the 50 units? Why?

Explanation / Answer
First of all the quality check inspectors should be questioned and more trends by their reporting managers.
The company produces 1000 units in a month and 50 units are checked and verified by the quality inspection.
The quality inspector should check 1-2 units daily. On an odd day he/she should check and verify a single unit and on even days he/she should check 20pcs. And on final releasing day of stock he/she should check 5-6 units. It will complete 50 units and due to daily monitoring there will be more probability that the manufacturing departments will get a strong message about the quality control.
There should be deep analysis of the retuned product and the same analysis should be done on the tasting units. For an example the major complain is coming for transformer of the vacuum cleaner then while testing of vacuum cleaners the quality inspector should do more test on transformer to check its durability.
