Question

A client seeks to resolve the following URL: www.cs.uwaterloo. ca Assume that each component of the name is a zone, resolving from right to left Describe how iterative name resolution occurs in DNS between the client's local name server, and (ii) each of the remaining name servers involved in the resolution for each portion of the name. Assume that there is no helpful cached information at any step. In providing your answer, assume that each label in the name is resolved by a unique name server. In your answer, I don't need the fine details of message contents, instead, I want you to identify the source (a name server) and destination (a name server) of each message that is passed along with the basic information about what has been resolved and what has not. Briefly (at most 5 sentences) explain the difference between authoritative and non-authoritative responses in DNS Log into Pluto through ssh and execute the command dig www.cse.ms state.edu Report the canonical name and one of the authoritative name servers Gust the name, I don't need an IP address). What are the top-level domain in the two URLs used in this question?

Explanation / Answer

Authoritative

An authoritative name server could be a name server that offers answers that are designed by an artless supply, as an example, the domain administrator or by dynamic DNS ways, in distinction to answers that were obtained via a daily DNS question to a different name server. Associate in Nursing authoritative-only name server solely returns answers to queries regarding domain names that are specifically designed by the administrator. An authoritative name server will either be a master server or a slave server. A master server could be a server that stores the first (master) copies of all zone records. A slave server uses Associate in Nursing automatic change mechanism of the DNS protocol in communication with its master to take care of a homogenous copy of the master records.

NON-Authoritative

Non authoritative name servers don't contain copies of any domains. Instead they need a cache file that's created from all the DNS lookups it's performed within the past that it's gotten Associate in Nursing authoritative response. once a non-authoritative server queries Associate in Nursing authoritative server Associate in Nursingd receives an authoritative answer, it passes that Associate in Nursingswer on to the utterer as an authoritative answer. Thus, non-authoritative servers will answer magisterially for a given resolution request. However, non-authoritative servers don't seem to be authoritative for any domain they are doing not contain specific zone files for. Most often, a non-authoritative server answers with a previous search from its search cache. Any Associate in Nursingswer retrieved from the cache of any server is deemed non-authoritative as a result of it failed to come back from an authoritative server.
