Evening all,

I'd like to get a detailed, clear, and well articulated answer to the below question. Please use correct english and grammar and proof-read your response. Please provide at least 2 detailed pages (double spaced), and provide at least one example and an abstract (executive summary) to start things off. PLEASE DO NOT COPY (PLAGIARISM) OFF THE INTERNET.

Suppose a system development project plan includes an expenditure of $30,000 for a prototype of the system, you would expect to find 40 errors in the system, each error would cost 1.2 hours to fix if found early in the SDLC or 14.9 hours if found later, and an hour costs $100. What is the case for paying to build the prototype? What is a prototype and how does using a prototype improve system development?

Explanation / Answer

It is always better to build a prototype. It can be tested. If any significant errors or bugs come out then it may get rectified right away at lower operational cost. If say there is a need to change the orientation and design of the prototype tool then also it could be achieved at lower cost.Prototype is nothing but development of basic first working model of a final version of a tool. So prototype helps in identifying the bugs ,prevalent weakness within the system at an early stage. This in turns promotes cost savings and at the same time improve system development. If any glitch comes out at a later stage or production phase then it causes hugh operational loss, production loss and at the same time loss in overall efficiency. Therefore early stage protoype development and testing is always recommended.
