Assimilation Does Not Mean Losing Culture In her letter to the editor in the Brownsville Times, Dr. Carla Banks, a history professor at Two Peaks College, argues that immigrants should not have to assimilate and shed ones culture to be successful in America. Although I agree with Dr. Banks that immigrants should not lose their cultures, I do not agree that assimilation to a new culture always has negative effects. Immigrants can enjoy the many advantages of living in two cultures. 2 The author describes several points that emphasize the difficulties of assimilation. She starts her argument by saying that the pressure to assimilate goes against U.S. history and that it is poor advice because today people need to understand different cultures in a global world.

Explanation / Answer

1.    In the blog post written by François Grosjean who is Emeritus Professor of psycholinguistics, Neuchâtel University, Switzerland has compared the results of bicultural participants to those who were not bicultural along with researchers Carmit Tadmor, Adam Galinsky and William Maddux. I agree that biculturals look into so many alternative perspectives and make strong neural conections to their ideas.I dont agree that only biculturals can get early promotions and professional success.

2. François Grosjean has discussed advantages for the biculturals over the monoculturals based on their psycological mechanism. He has done reserach along with three other researchers in MBA colleges in europe and USA And also israeli proffesionals who work in silicon valley. Then he compared the results between the biculturals and monoculturals and mentioned so many advantages that bicluturals enjoy in their daily life.

3. I agree with the author in so many arguments in the post. Yes, Biculturals have the advantage of thinking in two or more different cultural view. As they start analysing everything in two different perspectives. Their neurals networks inside their brain are tuned to the best way providing the best outcome possible out of every incident. As the days pass by,Their thinking capacity grow exponentially resulting in acheiving the things at a fast pace compared to the monoculturals. On the other hand, Monoculturals got used to the traditional way of thinking and chances of them thinking out of the box is probably less compared to biculturals. The same thing has been proven by the author and his co-reserachers in their experiment containing three studies.

4. Not all the time biculturals enjoy the natural advantage of their thinking capabilities. There are hardworking and very determined monoculturals who can compete and beat the biculturals in their professions. It also depends on the cirumstances through which the monoculturals and biculturals. Monoculturals share a fair advantage over biculturals if they are at higher position and have power to progress others careers. Indeed in practical and real world any can happen.

5. Cosidering all the possible cases provided by author in the post. The advantages of the biculturals over monoculturals is true when it comes to competetive world. They can acheive and reach the goals faster due to the analysing skills on complex things and grasping the merits easily.
