Question
Can you please help me with this question?I understand everything except how you wouldfigure out the phenotypic and genotypic ratios ofthe F3 progeny. Single-comb, feather legged F2 progeny could havethe genotype ppFF or ppFf. Is the previous information givenin the problem relevant?Q: In chickens, the presence of feathers on the legs is dueto a dominant allele (F) and the absence is due to the recessive(f). A pea-shaped comb on top of the head is controlled by adominant allele (P) and a single comb by the recessive allele (p).A cross is made between a chicken that is true-breeding for theabsence of leg feathers and pea comb. Only the single-combed,feather legged F2 Progeny are saved and these birds are allowed tomate at random. What genotypic and phenotypic ratios are expectedamong the progeny? Q: In chickens, the presence of feathers on the legs is dueto a dominant allele (F) and the absence is due to the recessive(f). A pea-shaped comb on top of the head is controlled by adominant allele (P) and a single comb by the recessive allele (p).A cross is made between a chicken that is true-breeding for theabsence of leg feathers and pea comb. Explanation / Answer
Because one of the parents in the F1 generation was withoutfeathers on its legs, it's genotype had to have been ff for thattrait, therefore, all of the offspring in the F2 generation who hadfeathered legs, would have to have the genotype Ff. Hope that helps!Related Questions
