Answer 1: Researcher plays an important role in the data collection process. According to AS Fink (2004), researcher comprehends the responses of the participants with the help of various instruments. They go through the literature available, find out the gaps, assesses different variables and their roles, decide the sampling method and design, collect the data, analyze the data and finally provide interpretation to the data obtained which becomes the addition to the literature. According to J Sutton (2015), the researcher in a qualitative research attempts to access the thought process and feelings of the respondents.

Answer 2: Usually the relationship between the researcher and the researched topic has an in-depth connection. The researcher chooses a topic that is as per their interest area or expertise area. There are advantages and disadvantages of the researcher working with known participants or research area. There are several biases like influencing participant to provide information matching with the notion of the researcher. Even, participants can reveal several unknown things which can be value-addition to the existing literature. As per Raheim (2016), researcher and participants bring different perspectives to the research. The insider and outsider perspectives are not new and different.

Answer 3: The researcher’s role related to ethics and the Belmont Report protocol is very crucial as sometimes the human participants are treated as mere subjects or objects of study. The Belmont Report is provided by the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioural Research. In many research, without the ethical guidelines, many are tested in psychology experiments and resulted in hazardous health consequences. According to this report, the ethical guidelines should be followed by all the researchers. The ethical principles guiding the researchers are respect for others, beneficence, justice with informed consent, risk & benefit assessment and appropriate selection of subjects.

Answer 4: The student can mitigate biases and avoid viewing data through a personal lens/or perspective if the researcher does not add any of his/her perspectives, avoid writing own theories or developing snowballing of words. Even, multiple methods to collect the qualitative data would avoid biases.
