Each byte is made up of 8 bits. How many bytes are required to encode 100 bits of data? In asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)(acommunications protocol used on backbone networks). data are organized into cells of 53 bytes. How many ATM cells can be transmitted in 1 minute over a connection that transmits data at the rate of 500 kilobits per second
Explanation / Answer
Solution:
a)
Number of bytes that can be encoed using 100 bits are
100/8= 12.5 Bytes, which means 12 bytes and 4 bits.
b)
data is organized in to cells of 53 Bytes
data transfer rate is= 500 Kbps (Kilibits per second)
So, in one minute= 500*60 bits will be transferred which is equal to 3000/8= 375 KBytes
and number of ATM cells= 375*1024/53= 7246 cells.
I hope this helps. Don't forget to give a thumbs up if you like this.
