Question
Alice's Restaurant Supply offers a line of specialty food products to institutional customers and restaurant chains. The firm prides itself on using only the finest ingredients and preparation methods. The owner, Alice Burns, hired you as an IT consultant to help her plan the system architecture for a new WLAN that will connect employee computers to the wired network. She asked you to start with the following questions: 1. What wireless standards could be implemented in the new system? What are the pros and cons of each standard? 2. Choose a wireless standard to implement in Alice's Restaurant Supply, and explain your choice. 3. Suppose that microwave ovens and cordless telephones are used extensively in some parts of the facility. Would that affect your IEEE 802.11 amendment choice? What standards would not be a good choice in this type of environment? 4. Suppose that the new WLAN will also provide roaming services for employees who must use portable computers and tablets in many warehouse locations. Which wireless topology would be the best choice? Explain your answer
Explanation / Answer
1)
There are multiple standarads in IEEE 802.11 which we can use in the new system.
Different wireless standards are shown below.
Generally these wireless networks are inexpensive to setup.By setting up this wireless network we can do our work from anyplace with in the stipulated distances.
Pro's and Con's of wireless standards:-
This is having a capacity of 54 Mbps speed and it can cover upto 100 feet. So here we are taking about restaurent of Alice and it has sparsly connected employees. So the network coverage is not sufficient.
If we use this standard we need to setup more access point which is cost burden. so this is not suitable.
This will be having 11 Mbps speed of network connection and can cover upto 300 feet. Fewer number of accesspoints is needed. So for the given scenario this will be serve their need.
It is almost same as IEEE 802.11a but it will use different technology. Even though it is using different technology this will not serve the needs of the Alice's restaurent.
It is having bandwith speed of 200 Mbps and network coverage of 300 feet. Although this serves the need of the restaurent it will be not fully utilised the resources because this is a small restaurent.
