5. A group of helpers are planning a dinner to raise money for a charity. They have excellent relations with the chair of the fund-raising committee. They want the dinner to be a big success but the issue tis that they have little experience in planning dinners and are not sure which tasks they need to do in order to succeed. Kai, the chair of the committee wants to guide them but he has little reward power over them since they are not paid workers. He doesn't know what leadership style to use.
a. Based on his writings, what type of leadership would Fred Fiedler suggest that the committee chair use? Why?

The committee chair having no direct control over the helpers, can use the task oriented and relationship oriented leadership style.
The task oriented and relationship oriented leadership style should be used because a relationship style uses the relationship in between teams in the best possible way and it it mentioned in the case that the helpers have excellent relations with the club members. following this wil enable them to work in a harmony thus, achieving the goials. Also, a task oriented approach will help Kai to achieve the target in a way that the goals are met as per the requirements. A task oriented style will thus, enable them to work on starteies to achieve the results in a formulated way.
b.
The path goal theory ( vroom's expactancy theory) refers to work on a leadership style that creates harmony in the working environment and the working people. It refers to allocating the best fitting employees and providing them a dedicated working environment so that the desired oals are achieved.
A leadership style is used based on the nature of the task that needs to be done. Accordingly the top authority is responsible for providing them (the workers) with necessary suport by enablin them with solutions and feedback such that they do not feel neglected. This will enable them to work more effeciently.
Thus, as per the path goal theory of leadership it would not be wrong to say that a leadership style based on the nature of the goal is adopetd.
