Explanation / Answer
Bill Evans' trio comprises of three people Bill Evans,Rocco Scott LaFaro and Stephen Paul Motian. This trio washeaded by Bill Evans. In this trio Bill plays piano, Paul Motian plys drums and Scott acts as bassist.
This trio together developed and expanded the counter-melodic style in significant manner. In December 1959 the band recorded its first album, Portrait in Jazz for Riverside Records which brought them a huge recognition.
The trio concept of equal interplay among the musicians was virtually pioneered by Evans, and these albums remain the most popular in his extensive catalog. Individually each one has their own recognition.
Evans was the first notable modern jazz pianist who brought the sostenuto pedal into his playing in an essential way and so Motian's work as a leader since the 1970s rarely included a pianist in his ensembles and relied heavily on guitarists whereas LaFaro's playing had matured to a level not previously seen on his instrument. He became in high demand as a bassist. All the three individually gone peaks in their instruments.
Academics and critics like Bill Evans because his playing is harmonically complex, and otherwise calm and well-structured. Jazz in general overflows with archival material. It's a live medium, and recordings of shows have been common since the early part of the last century. With Jazz this trio made such an impact that later genaerations followed their style.
Bill Evans even corrected 8th bit in piano. The trio composed new rythm and style to the existing music pattern. The trio made several compositions that expanded the notion of jazz harmonic progressions, and was very influential in the creation of 'Kind of Blue'
