Topic-How to motivate team members

Summary of the experience- This was a highly engaging experience. The course instructors were very good and they got all the participants involved in the process. They talked about Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene theory. As per this theory, there are some factors that lead to motivation. Such factors could be a highly effective boss, good organization culture, high growth prospects etc. There are other factors called the hygiene factors. The absence of these factors causes dissatisfaction but the presence of this factor won't motivate the individual.
Another theory discussed was Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X is an authoritative style of management whereas Theory Y is a participative style of management.
Expectancy theory was also explained. As per this theory, people behave depending on the outcome they expect as a result of their behavior.
Conclusions- People behave differently depending on their own psychological bent of mind. As a manager of a team, one should understand the psychological makeup of the individual team members and create situations in the workplace which are individual-centric. There's no one size fits all theory of motivation.
