Question

Suppose we have a large database containing information about people’s preferences in several “loss-of-life” situations. From this, we can determine what matters to people (on average) and how much those things matter to them (on average). Using at least two of the morally-relevant factors, explain (a) the important role of such a database in designing ethical targeting algorithms for autonomous vehicles, and (b) the way in which focusing on such a database is insufficient for designing fully ethical targeting algorithms.

Explanation / Answer

Answer) With the availabilty of a lot of data of various types of people what we will know is that the human relationship is found to be the most important amongst all. Having seen various accidents and loss of lives in such accidents tells us everything, that how closesly people are attached to each other, how much they care fo their loved ones. So to prevent such accidents and loss of lives due to human errors,

a) Various autonomous vehicles should be implemented which should not have any human intervention. Various algorithms should be designed in such a way that it follows the rules of the traffic all the time and there must be a control in the hand of human as well so that he can have direct control over the vehicle in case if emergency.

b) Studying various databases isn't eneough to prevemt all this. We need to find the cases in which the chances of such accidents are severe, these cases should always be given higher priority so that the autonomous vehicles can be implemented for such cases at first. With the study of databases, one can simply see what was the incident, what it was about etc. But the real knowledge comes when inspected practically.
