Question

Hello,

Please help me in answering these questions (as many as you can)

Thank you so much.

1. Explain how the address resolution protocol (ARP) works. 2. What is a difference between BoOTP and DHCP protocols? 3. Arouter supporting Qos(Quality of service) does not always generate the shortest path. Explain why the shortest path is not effective for QoS. 4. What technique designed to conserve the number of public IPv4 addresses needed by network? a 5. You are designing the network backbone in a multi-story building. What kind of cable should you use for the backbone? 6. ich utility captures packets on a network connection and shows packet contents? 7. Which kind of attack is an attack where the source address o a packet is modified so as to hide its origin? 8. What kind of attack can occur in Application Layer? 9. What kind of attack can occur in Presentation layer? 10. What kind of attack can occur in Session layer? 11, What kind of attack can occur in Transport layer?

Explanation / Answer

Hi,

Please find below the answers-

1. ARP stands for address resolutiin protocol. It helps the device connected to a network to get its mac address of another device connected to the same network. The device needs to ping the Ip address of the device to which it wants to ping and then it gets a response which has its MAC address. Example ping 10.122.34.67 will return the mac address of the IP address. Systems do have a mac look up table for this ip address to mac address translation. This table is stored in each of the systems that are connected to a given network.

2. Below are the differences-

a) Bootp supports limited number of client configuration parameters while dhcp supports large number of configuration parameters.

b) Bootp uses two phase bootstrap configuration process while dhcp uses single step process.

3. Below are resons why QOS cannot guarantee shortest path-

a) Dynamic topology: The topology of wireless ad hoc networks changes with time. This
leads to imprecise network state information at the nodes and thus makes it difficult to
provide QoS guarantees. In fact, when the network topology changes at a fast rate, it would
not be possible to provide any QoS guarantees.
b). Bandwidth sharing: The bandwidth in a wireless network is limited and is also shared by
other nodes in the network. The transmission from a node not only consumes local
resources but also consumes the bandwidth of the neighbors within the contention range.
Thus resource allocation for QoS is difficult.

4. Below technique can be used for prolonging Ipv4 address life span-

Carrier Grade NAT (CGN), NAT444

The technique to prolong the lifespan of IPv4 is to perform multiple layers of Network Address Translation (NAT)/Port Address Translation (PAT). This is a technique where there is one instance of NAT44 (translating an IPv4 address into another IPv4 address) is used by the broadband internet access subscriber CPE device at their location.

6. Packet Capture Utility

7. This attack is known as spoofing when someone tries to pretend to be someone whom he is not.

8. Application layer can suffer from denial of sercice attack.

9. The presentation layer may suffer from SQL injection attack.
