Based on the scenario, and the question at the end of the material. Thanks!
Scenario;
As a marketing consultant, you will need to consider various scenarios that could impact your client, and as a result you will need to work with your client to Develop a communication strategy that will enable the client to address situations. Wendy’s has approved a policy to address discrimination in the workplace. Examples of possible discrimination topics include gender, racial, religious, or age discrimination.
select either a defensive or offensive communication strategy, or you may choose an approach that utilizes a combination of these strategies.
Examples of Corporate Communication Strategies;
a) Defensive strategies: These are communications that tend to be reactive, with information transmitted after something has happened. Often this is in
reaction to “bad” news, and the resulting publicity causes a response. It can also be undertaken when a corporation simply does not want to be
perceived as generating publicity about an event. By way of example, a corporation may have made a donation to a particular charity or provided help
during a disaster, but it does not want to be perceived as trying to generate favorable publicity. However, due to increased publicity, it “reluctantly” has to
confirm its action.
b) Offensive strategies: These are communications that are usually proactive, with information transmitted before the media has reported an event or even
before something has occurred. This can be to pre-empt bad publicity over something that has happened, or to make an announcement about an issue
or event that will reflect favorably on the corporation.
Employee’s, Management, Investors, and Customers are both the external and internal stakeholders.

b) Identify the intended target audience for the internal communication, and then explain why they have been selected as the target audience.
Provide justification for selecting the identified target audience.
c) Develop a draft communication that could be sent to the identified internal target audience addressing this scenario. Ensure that the appropriate tone and message are communicated in your draft communication.
Explanation / Answer
In organizations, mostly women experience violence as well as harassment. Violence can be based upon some factors such as racism, discrimination, sex, immigration, disability, gender inequality, etc. Some women experience mental abuse. People from different background and caste face racism, verbal threats and mental abuse. Violence in organizations implies to the misuse of power and authority.
One of the common problem faced by the individual working in any organization is sexual harassment. According to the US supreme court, men as well as women can be victims of sexual harassment. The focus is mainly on women. Sexual harassment is a critical problem at workplace, is an unwilling and unwanted conduct which causes anxiety and discomfort to other employee. It shatters one's dignity and self-esteem, eventually creates dissatisfaction at work environment.
Another common problem faced in workplace is racial discrimination. Racial harassment refers to harassment suffered by individuals, or work teams, based upon their color, race, nationality. The harassment may either be verbal or physical.
In the case of Wendy, wherein there is an introduction of a new policy related to discrimination addressed at the workplace. I will prefer to use defensive communication strategy. Discrimination at the workplace is a very sensitive issue that can happen within an organization. Every employee has the right to work free from any kind of discrimination. Anti-harassment policy should be communicated on regular basis by various interventions like, e-module, class room training and assessment. Information related to any kind of discrimnation should be managed and controlled tightly. With such issues, a company's reputation and goodwill is at stake. With the use of defensive strategy, an organization is able to deal with the incident professionally and competently.
Training must be provided to every individual working right from employees and staff members to the managers. Training plan must be made to avoid and handle violence situations at workplace. It must aim at making the working environment safe and secure. Thus, most of the companies must provide their employees to undertake violence as well as harassment prevention training. Discrimination and bias must be avoided.
Video tapes and recording and role playing are some of the elements which are used as equipments to make them understand more easily. Participants must be given situations and make them answers so that they understand and prevent such activities going on in the organizations. There must be large group discussions and they should be given time to give their feedback. Effective complaint procedure has to be taken into account in undesirable situations.
Reported harassment should be dealt as per procedure and disciplinary action to be taken into consideration to ensure no repetition. Immediate action has to be taken to stop the harassment first and then the investigation needs to initiated.
Communication is the lifeblood of every organization. Managers communicate with their subordinates to get work done. Subordinates seek clarifications and report to their superiors. Communication can be internal, which implies that information can be transmitted within the organization. It can also be external, that is information can be transmitted outside the organization.
There are different types of internal communication:
Formal : Upward, Downward, Horizontal, Diagonal
Informal: Informal
In the above situation wherein the corporation has provided help in some disaster or provided charity and is prefering to avoid publicity, I will prefer to choose Downward communication. Since, downward communication is from top to low level of management. Such news, if needed to be hidden, are handled by the expertise who are sitting at high positions. These high level experts know very well how to handle such critical issues and how they can be hidden from media. This type of internal communication enables to get better feedback at all the levels in the organization. It promotes better understanding and involvement from top to bottom level of management. It enables in creating awarenes among the employees.
The intended target audience for the internal communication will be:
High level management: Board of Directors, Managers,Team leaders. These people or you can say group of people have been selected as the managers as well as leaders will be able to easily make the team members understand specific issues that are somehow sensitive within an organization. Managers or leaders understand the behavior of their subordinates and team members and they are familier with the ways to tackle their low level employees.
I prefer use of office circular that are meant to convey information to a large number of people who work in the organization, for instance specific groups. Circulars are convenient way of providing information to a large number of people at the same time. In circulars, time of meeting can be conveyed. Afterwards, in the meeting, the issue can be conveyed and discussed. Any king of suggestions or feedback is taken positively for the betterment of the organization.
