a. One of your responsibilities as a project manager is to apply project management knowledge and industry knowledge to your projects. What are some of the ways you can keep current in these areas? How does staying current in these areas affect your customers and your organization?
The role of Project Manager starts with Planning and ends with Representing. But along with Planning and Representing, Project Manager contains various and important stages like Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Monitoring, Controlling, Innovating.
Project Manager is also responsible for applying his / her knowledge and expertise based on his / her experience to the ongoing project.
As a Project Manager, I should be updated with current trends and technologies. I need to show my keen interest towards projects and related activities occurring in a real world. I should cultivate habit to show interest in the industry or career field by organizing publications or associations that are compatible with project goal.
Staying current in these areas always affects customers. Customers will be happier if you, as a project manager, demonstrate your publications and skills by representing customers' product. Also your involvement in current areas will give insights to customers to get self-confidence for their products.
b. Is there ever a situation when respecting confidential company information should be ignored? Why or why not?
No, I have never faced this kind of situation. And in case, if any situation occurs then also as per ethics and loyal to my organization, I won't disclose any confidential information for my organization according to regulations. Being a matured and standing at higher position, Project Manager should never go against any company or organization's policy.
c. Competing needs among stakeholders is a very common problem on projects. Discuss a project where you’ve had strong competing needs between stakeholders and discuss how you resolved the problem.
On software development project, mostly this kind of problems arise. Whenever project manager deals with multiple projects together then it would be competing for a situation to have appropriate features in projects and need to deliver projects on time or early. This situation can be resolved by delivering appropriate products with agreed features and also by delivering products on time.
d. Describe culture shock. Have you ever experienced culture shock or had a project member that appeared to have this issue? How did you handle the situation?
Culture shock is used to describe complexities, confusion, irregularity or uncertainty.
In some projects, I have experienced culture shock for the delivery of product on time. Clients have demanded to release products before time, but I have convinced client by provided very good features to his organisation.
e. Discuss the role of the project manager in dealing with diversity and cultural issues.
Project Manager plays an important role in dealing with diversity and cultural issues. Project Manager can gather important information related to project from various sources and collect them together. Comparison with any existing features is highly desirable to make clients convinced and satisfied. Hence, Project Manager always needs to think of diversity to provide out of box solution which does not have any cultural issues.
