Question

Samaritan’s Purse is a large international relief organization with a mission to help people in Jesus’ name. Serving in disaster relief and in meeting practical needs of people, Samaritan’s Purse focuses on loving in action and helping the needy, just like the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10. As a large and well-known organization, Samaritan’s Purse does a number of things to set a standard of excellence. Throughout chapters eleven, sixteen, and seventeen of the textbook, the principles of advocacy, high-impact non-profit characteristics, and managing across cultures can be applied to Samaritan’s Purse.

First, instead of lobbying for governmental change, Samaritan’s Purse is active in gospel advocacy instead. Samaritan’s Purse does what they can to effect change in the world instead of relying on others to do so. With advocacy being “action taken in support of a cause or an idea,” Samarian’s Purse advocates for the gospel by being the hands and feet of Christ and serving others (Worth, 2017, p. 287). Sometimes, the best way to advocate for the gospel is not with words but with actions, and Samaritan’s Purse advocates through love in action. In serving and loving others, Samarian’s Purse is fulfilling the great commission stated in Mark 16:15 where Jesus says, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Also, Samaritan’s Purse follows many of the characteristics of a high-impact non-profit (Worth, 2017, p. 419-420). Along with the first point about advocacy, a practice common to high-impact non-profits is to advocate and serve. Though many organizations begin with a focus only on one of them, high-impact non-profits incorporate advocacy and service together, and Samaritan’s Purse was originally founded to incorporate both aspects. In addition, Samaritan’s Purse does a great job at inspiring other evangelists and creating committed advocates on their behalf, which is another characteristic of a high-impact non-profit. By inviting others into the work that they do, Samaritan’s Purse is able to reach more people and inspire them to do gospel work themselves. Finally, Samaritan’s Purse has mastered the art of adaptation and adjusting strategies to change, especially with rapid response to natural disasters. Because much has been given to Samaritan’s Purse, much is required (Luke 12:48), and Samaritan’s Purse has proven to be a high-impact organization in exhibiting these characteristics.

Lastly, Samaritan’s Purse has exceeded in managing across cultures. With field offices that have 2000-4000 employees in many different countries throughout the world, Samaritan’s Purse is not able to have a standardized way of managing and communicating across cultures. Culture effects ordinary things such as manners, greeting one another, and communication, and adapting strategies to be cordial in every culture can be difficult (Worth, 2017, p. 435). However, Samaritan’s Purse hires managers with relevant cultural experience and is intentional about hiring from the country in which the field office is stationed. In doing so, Samaritan’s Purse follows 1 Peter 4:9 well: “Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” In catering to other cultures without complaining, Samaritan’s Purse is able to serve and love well.

Explanation / Answer

Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief organization with a goal to help people in Jesus’ name. It serves people who are affected by disasters and meets their practical needs. There are other activities which Samaritan’s Purse undertakes- gospel advocacy. They try to bring the change in the world by themselves and do not rely on others. They advocate through love in action.

They have high-impact non-profit features in their organization. Their aim is to advocate and serve. They focus on both, high impact and non-profit. By doing this, they reach out to a variety of people who are inspired to do the same work. High-impact organizations don't simply concentrate on completing one thing great. They may begin giving extraordinary projects, however in the end they understand that they can't accomplish fundamental change through administration conveyance alone. So they add arrangement promotion to get to government assets or to change enactment, consequently extending their effect. Different not-for-profits begin doing promotion and later add grassroots projects to supercharge their procedure. At last, every one of them connect the partition amongst administration and backing, and turn out to be great at doing both.

They have also done great in managing across cultures. They have offices in different countries with a large number of employees throughout the world. This has given the organization a vast culture and the organization has come up with adapting and communicating across cultures. They hire managers with adequate experience of different cultures. This increases the morale of the organization, adds different perspectives as people with different background work together, creates global impact and develop community relations.

Its main purpose is to serve and love well without making any profits. Its aim is to keep people satisfied with their lives and giving them a helping hand in as many cases as possible.
