Question
Get the Data and Import it to Excel Go to http://sealevel.colorado.edu/and find the data link below the figure labelled "Raw data (ASCII)". Right click on this link and pick "Save Link As" to download the text file to your own computer. Open Excel and go to a blank sheet. In the data tab select Get External Data From Text. Select the data file from where ever you downloaded it to the computer. This will open the Text Import Wizard. In the step 1 box select the "Fixed Width" button. This is needed because the columns are not separated by commas in the text file. In the step 2 box select the Tab and Space as the delimiters. In step 3 keep the format as General. Click on Finish. The Import Data box can be kept to the default values (upper left cell in the existing workspace). Click OK and the data will now appears in two columns in your Excel Sheet.Explanation / Answer
You can easily import the text data as per suggested in the steps.
I used Microsoft Excel and followed the above steps. Was able to get the data in the two column.
1. Download the data by clicking on the Raw Data(ASCII) link by saving the file opened as text file.
2. Go to Microsoft Excel -> Data tab on header -> From Text ->Choose the file you saved.
3. On Import wizard that got opened. First tab: Choose Fixed Width then click on next
4 On this page select tab and spaces as delimiter - >Next
5. Chose format as General and click on finish.
6. The data will be populated in the two column.
Thanks.
