Question

Kuhn describes the way in which ideas come to be seen as "normal" in the scientific disciplines. His ideas can be applied to more commonplace experience as well. Give an example of a paradigm shift (the making of "new normal") that you have experienced in an organization or society at large. Describe how what was once seen as very odd or even wrong has come to be seen as the mainstream - but be careful that you don't simply describe a change in behavior - which is not always the result of a paradigm shift. Having cell phones, for example, isn't a paradigm shift. Paradigm shifts are "bigger" and reflect changes in fundamental social beliefs and assumptions about how life should be lived.

Explanation / Answer

Answer

Thomas Kuhn was a great physician, whose ideas are very famous on scientific revolution in the world. His wrote a book, which was very famous on the paradigm shift terminology.

The example of paradigm shift from our corporate work culture is shift from “office work” to “work from home” in the corporate world.

Work from home provides the flexibility to the employee towards work management and personal work management. Employee feels happier in working from home. Employees contribute more while working from home.

Earlier it was never seen that an employee can work from home, but with the use of current technology, the employees can work from home in many corporate. Looking the rate with which the work from home is increasing, it going to be the major option in future after 5-10 years time. This looks to be a paradigm shift in the work culture for the employees and corporate.

During earlier days, the working starts with entering in the office. The boss uses to monitor the employee for his/her work during the day. The employee use to work as per the expectation or instruction from his/her boss or his/her manager. This process was running for a long time. This was the normal working process at those times. In those days, if the employee is late for few minutes, then the employee will not be allowed to work for that day. This type of culture was present during those days. So from those days, the work culture shifted to work from home culture. The work from home never dreamed at earlier days. It never looks to be a feasible option in earlier days. But today this option is famous and seen as one of the best option for the corporate to engage the employee. This provides the flexibility to organization as well as to employee for meeting the organization objectives. The work from home makes the employee to support his personal and social life as well. So work from home option looks more balanced option from work and social needs. Now days most of the corporate are exploring work from home culture. In US or Europe most of the corporate are exploring work from home option for better managing employees for the organization. This has become a very common approach now days. People feel this as the great option for earning their livelihood.

So this is how this paradigm shift is seen in the work culture in the world. This specially benefits female employees who can focus at home as well as for their professional career also.
