Question
Here follows a mix of various statements about link layer protocols and equipment. Which of the statements are correct? Ethernet is for carrying Internet traffic. Hence, an Ethernet switch only knows how to switch IP datagrams. Ethernet (IEEE 802.11) and WLAN (IEEE 802.11) both use the same MAC address format and the same MAC address space. Ethernet has gone from a shared bus topology to a star topology with an active switch in the middle. This was necessary in order to bring Ethernet to gigabit speed and beyond. An Ethernet switch forwards frames through broadcasting, so that each frame is sent on all ports. A switch that encounters a MAC destination address that it does not recognize, uses ARP to find out where the recipient is.Explanation / Answer
Statement 1 is incorrect. ethernet is not only used to carry Internet traffic.
I am not sure about the second statement but according to me it is not true as well.
The main reason to shift from bus topology to star topology is prevent the no. of collisions happened in the bus topology. Because speed doesn't depends on the topology.
Statement 4 is not true. A switch sends the frames using the MAC address.
Statement 5 is correct.
