Question

Which of the following statements are true about disks? i. magnetic disks are organized into cylinders, each one containing as many tracks as there are heads stacked vertically: the tracks are divided into sectors ii. a RAID (redundant array of inexpensive disks) should look like a SLED (single large expensive disk) to the operating system, but have better performance and better reliability: in addition, RAIDs have the property to allow parallel operation iii. optical disks have much higher recording densities than conventional magnetic disks iv. DVD (originally digital video disk) uses the same general design as CDs, except it uses a green laser i and ii i, ii, and iii ii and iv ii, iii, and iv

Explanation / Answer

(i) is true because it conatins a magnetic rotating suface and are organised using cylinders and these are devided in tracks and they are further more devided using sectors.

(ii) is also true .

(iii) is wrong. data access is more fast in optical disks but the storage capacity and density is much more higher in magnetic disks than optical disks.

(iv)The design also differs so we can't say that the statement is true for CD and DVD.
