Question

I need help with following question

A logician drives into a drive-in restaurant and says, ‘‘I want a hamburger or a hot dog

and french fries.’’ Which of the following cases are valid interpretations

of the order? (Note that in English ‘‘or’’ means ‘‘exclusive or.’’)

a. Just a hamburger.

b. Just a hot dog.

c. Just french fries.

d. A hot dog and french fries.

e. A hamburger and french fries.

f. A hot dog and a hamburger.

g. All three.

I think choice c is correct answer because exclusive or negates the or statements

Am I right or wrong?

Thanks

Explanation / Answer

d. and e. are valid interpretations.

the reason is that when we say A or B, where or is XOR. we need either of it.(ANY ONE)

"And" means no matter what, this value should be there.

so either of hamburger or hot dog and french fries is mandatory
