Responsibilities as a Network Manager:
As a network manager i need to supervise my team, i will expect people from domains having worked on operational risk, credit risk or compliance domain. As a network manager my responsibility is to work with IT personnel in formulating RFPs, and in enhancing their understanding and expertise on the subject matter. Network manager needs to ensure that IT systems are secure and in line with best practices protecting from any data breaches which may occur using network as a medium.
The specific responsibilities of your assigned role
After reviewing the scope of the project and what security standards the project is complying with, Network manager needs to decide on the scope of the network. What ports should be open, what are the accessible sites, what authentication mechanism users follow to login into project's network(if separate, such as VPN, VM if any), what network policies need to be deployed.
Also, Network manager will review all the controls deployed against vulnerabilites found, all patches should be installed and updated. List of all past threats should be maintained along with mitigation strategies.
Explain your role and the roles of the other team members to senior management
Role as a network manager involves deciding the scope of the network, authentication mechanism used, deciding on traffic monitoring, what detection and prevention techniques should be used on a network to detect any malicious activity or intruder and how you are going to deploy the network aligning with the security best practices.
Other network team members are used for deploying the network as decided, cross-checking each device and machines on the network if they comply with all the policies, also network team provides support in case of any malicious activity detected or network failure or slow network. Network Team members provide training and instructions to user and other resources about the best practices so that they do not fall under non-compliance of any network policy.
