Consider that a large online company that provides a widely used search engine, social network, and/or news service is considering banning ads for the following products and services from its site: e-cigarettes, abortion clinics, ice cream, and sugared soft drinks. Which, if any, do you think they should ban? Give reasons. In particular, if you select some but not all, explain the criteria for distinguishing.

Someone posted a video on a popular video site showing a group of men with clubs entering a building and beating unarmed people. The site’s policy prohibits posting videos with graphic violence. When a viewer complained, the site removed the video. Other viewers appealed the removal, saying the video documented abuse of prisoners in a Russian prison camp. Suppose you are a manager at the site. Develop a plan for dealing with such videos. Will you repost the video? Explain the issues you considered.

Use ethical criteria from Chapter 1, evaluate the decision to sell the software described in the previous exercise to a repressive government.

part a:

e-cigarettes:I would ban e-cigarettes ads for people who don't smoke (if I have data available for that).
Showing ads to people who don't smoke will have a negative impact on their health, it will also attract them towards smoking.Studies have showed the nicotine in these e-Cigaretters have a negative impact on their lungs.

The other part which I will consider is if the ad is shown to people who are regular smokers(If data is available).It can have a positive impact if people shift to these. It will be still harmful but less harmful compared to regular cigarettes.

Abortion clinics: The ad should be only shown when someone is specifically searching for abortion clinics otherwise it can have a negative impact if we show this add to other people for e.g. pregnant ladies.

Ice cream and sugared soft drinks: Taking excess of ice cream and sugared soft drinks could have a negative impact on health but they aren't as harmful as cigerettes. I will try to not show this ads to children because they get attracted to these ads easily and have a higher risk of getting affected by the ill effects of these.

part b:

Regarding graphic violence, there should be a policy that young demographics is kept away from these videos. There should be an age restriction for these videos. Before removing any video, an analysis should be done to determine how much percentage of users are reporting these videos(out of users who have watched that video). If the percentage is above a threshold then the video should be reviewd by moderators from the site and then the final decision should be taken.Also the comments on that video should be analyzed to determine sentiments of the people towards that video.

part c:

Couldn't answer because no idea about software described in previous exercise.
