Using Skype, computer users can make face-to-face calls and calls from a computer to a traditional phone or mobile phone. In fact, using Skype, mobile users can call each other to talk face to face.

I had experience of working in a startup for one year. I can that we had many uses of Skype in our company.
Advantages:
** Very Low Cost:
For a startup, one of the main issues is to manage the budget. As VoIP has very low cost, in fact, no cost unless you use a business version for communication between team members and clients.
** No extra cables:
For VoIP call making there is no need of any cables for connection which is not like a local telephone. VoIP phone can be carried everywhere
** Very Low Taxes
As the governments have not imposed heavy taxes on VoIP services, it is a better choice than a common local telephone. Choosing a VoIP provider could add up to significant savings at the end of the month or year.
** Portability :
You can make calls to any part of the world. By choosing a local telephone will add more costs for making those type of calls.But for VoIP, you can make and receive phone calls wherever there is a broadband connection simply by signing into your VoIP account.
** Extra Features:
It has got extra features like video-conferencing, passing data like images, notes and video files between colleagues.
** Flexibility:
It is flexible to use anywhere and anytime.
**Disadvantages:
1 One of the main disadvantages of VoIP is the security concern. As it is with other Internet technologies it may be vulnerable to different malware and thefts
2. VoIP has a bit to improve on Voice Quality because it depends on a lot of factors like broadband connection, hardware, and the service provider.
3. If there is congestion and internet poor connectivity then VoIP is not that reliable to make a call as it can lead to bad experience.
4. Another major concern is that using VoIP we cannot make emergency calls to 911 and others.
5. VoIP calls cannot be made or get disconnected when there is no power or climatic changes which is an another drawback.
