4. decide how your organization should house its backup.
Explanation / Answer
Offsite VS Onsite Back up:
Deciding the back up is completely rely on how much a project dependant on the data. Both onsite and offsite Back up has its own pros and cons.
However my choice here is to go with offsite back, which has relatively lot more advantages than onsite. Also one of the requirement here is, recovery option must resume at minimal level, not more than two weeks.
My choice here is to go with Offsite Backup.
Why Offsite Backup:
Offsite or remote backup are happening through system like cloud services provided by major vendors all over the world. The reason for choosing offsite backup for the above conditions are below,
1. High level security: Comparing to onsite backup, there is no threat any local employees direct access to backup, also any disaster or damage to the building will not affect the company data. Since the data was in cloud, it was safer than physical hardwares like hard drives.
2. Faster Access: Here the speed of data access depending on the internet speed used, however while using offsite back up, the cloud mechanism will automatically allot the data in different servers. So parallel fetch from multiple servers increase the speed of data retrieval.
As the above situation need recovery at minimal, it is possible with offsite back, since the data was not processed from single hardware, parallel retrieval from different servers make the recovery time very low.
3. Multiple checkpoints: Normally in all the backup, there will check point at regular interval of backup. So if company needs to recover data not older than one month, it can easily be retrieved with the latest check point marked in the offsite backup.
However out of all these advantages with offsite back, it costs little more than onsite backup with physical hardwares. Also now lot of vendors are coming with many economical offsite backup technologies, finding the right cloud product at reasonable price needs little effort.
So with the above positive facts, our organization will go with offsite backup, to store the 10TB of data.
Note : Also it allows easier ways to share the data among the users easily with secured authorization.
