Question
This week you will work on the system implementation phase of the final project, which requires completion of the following steps:
Site preparation: What are the physical locations where workstations, printers, servers, and other hardware will be installed?
User preparation: How will you provide users enough information about the system being installed to gain their confidence?
Installing hardware and software: How will you place and connect the hardware? How will you go about installing, configuring, customizing, and testing specific software?
Explanation / Answer
System implementation is the final phase of the project before it goes "live". This stage comes after all software and hardware is finalized and ready to be installed.
Site Preparation:
Work stations are from where individual client members will access the system connected to servers. The locations of each work station will be identified by the client based on its office design. As a part of site preparation, the client needs to be advised on the space required for individual systems to be installed, its connectivity ducts for wires that will lead to server, printer, router and ergonomics i.e. sitting and ease of accessing system for usage by individual users.
User Preparation:
The system's success will depend upon how well the users adapt and use the system both individually and collectively. Hence, an elaborate training and orientation session will need to be organized explaining all the modules step by step. In addition to a joint session, the project team members will also individually explain users their queries and will ideally be present at the site for initial few days of system installatioin. This will help in clearing out initial teething issues and also guide the users of any problems they may face.
Installing hardware and software:
The servers and routers will be placed at a secure place with the help of client to ensure safety and will have controlled access. The access will be given to only authorized personnel i.e. system administrator or IT incharge of the client. Printers will be placed at a common location that is conveniently accessed by users. All the hardwares and systems will be connected by LAN through wires and WIFI. The wires will need to be concealed in ducts and preferably under the floor carpets. Ideally the wires should spread wall to wall to avoid walking areas.
Once the system is in place and servers, printers, routers all connected to individual user systems, the testing phase is initiated where softwares are installed and their connectivity is checked. In this the project team members will be needed to install softwares and check each system connected to main servers for their optimum functionality and accessing of data and softwares. Some initial hiccups are bound to happen in this phase which will need to be sorted out case by case in due course.
